Trump threatens WHO to permanently stop the funding
The United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday, has written a four-page
letter to the Chief of World Health Organization (WHO) threatening to do away
with the US funding permanently over Novel Coronavirus pandemic. President
Trump has also detailed out every occasion
since December when the global health body did not act on the available
information and rather misled the world.
The President gave WHO Chief Tredos Adhanom an ultimatum of 30 days to commit to major substantive improvements and has warned that if the global health body does not deliver on this, he would ‘make temporary freeze of United States funding to the WHO permanent and reconsider our membership”. He added, “My administration has already started discussions with you on how to reform the organization.”
However, the letter did not specify what ‘improvements’ Trump was looking for.
The President also wrote, “It is clear the repeated missteps by you and your organization in responding to the pandemic have been extremely costly for the world. The only way forward for the World Health Organisation is if it can actually demonstrate independence from China.”
So far, there are around 4,911,839 confirmed cases and 320,458 deaths across the globe with America reporting the highest 1,550,539 positive cases and 91,985 fatalities.
