Samajwadi Party leader and son shot dead in UP; act caught on camera
A heart-wrenching video that captured the murder of Samajwadi Party (SP)
politician and his son has emerged from Western Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal
district. The father-son was shot dead on Tuesday, over a road being built
under the Central government’s Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme
(MGNREGA). The duo died on the spot.
The SP leader Chote Lal Diwakar and his son Sunil were inspecting the road that cuts across a field in the village. There they had an argument with two other men from the same village. The two villagers, who are said to be local goons, were armed with rifles and one of them has been identified as Savinder.
In the 2.30-minute video, the two armed men, can be seen holding their rifles and walking on the muddy path while arguing with the politician. Later, a man can be heard saying ‘goli chala’ (open fire) while others can be heard calming them down. Seconds later, the two men walked back and opened fire on the father-son.
Reports claim that the strongmen were upset as the road was being built through their fields. The Diwakars and the strongmen indulged into a long and abusive argument over the issue. Senior Diwkar’s wife is the Pradhan of Sambhal’s Shamsoi village. So far, no one has been arrested.
