Rape survivor set ablaze by accused in UP’s Unnao

A 23-year-old rape survivor from Unnao district in Uttar Pradesh was set ablaze in the wee hours of Thursday by a group of five men – two of whom had raped her in March. The incident occurred when she was on her way to a local court for hearing in the case.

The men dragged her into the fields outside her Sindupur Village and poured petrol on her and set her afire. The victim suffered 60-70% burns and the police rushed her to a local government hospital in Lucknow and her condition is said to be critical.
The woman had lodged a complaint against two men from her village Unnao for raping her and filming the act in March. While one of the rape accused managed to flee, the other one was recently released on bail.

Out of the five men who burnt the woman, the police have arrested three while the other two others managed to flee. The case is being handled by senior police officials from Unnao Vikrant Vir.
