Rahul Gandhi did not tender his resignation as party head at CWC meet
Shrunk to barely 52 seats, the Indian National Congress had its first review meeting with the brass Congress Working Committee (CWC) officials on Saturday morning.
The CWC meet includes UPA chief Sonia Gandhi, general secretary for UP east Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, former PM Dr Manmohan Singh. Senior congress leaders started arriving for the brainstorming session at around 11 am. Other leaders who attended the meet included, Amarinder Singh, Sheila Dikshit, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ambika Soni, Meera Kumar, Ashok Gehlot, P Chidambaram, Siddaramaiah.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) dubbed the reports of Rahul Gandhi’s resignation as ‘mischevious. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala elucidated that Rahul Gandhi did not tender his resignation at the CWC meeting as was broadcast by some news agencies.
During the meet, the party leaders expressed their disappointment of not being able to encash seats despite victories in BJP states, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka barely five months back. The party was expecting revival in other states including Bihar, Haryana, Assam and Maharashtra. But it failed miserably.
The members blamed the party’s leadership to refuse to heed the caution on strategy and issues and for getting obsessed with Modi. People were also of the view that the negative campaigning against Modi and repeated use of the jibe ‘Chowkidar Chor hai’ jibe backfired.
Also, the leaders were of the opinion that the allegations regarding the Rafale deal and asking Modi to prove credentials on national security and questions on Balakot were off the mark.
The CWC meet was still on till the filing of this report.
