Quarantine day 6 – India’s Coronavirus toll inches to 1200 mark
On the day 6 of 21-days lockdown, India reported more than 1190 confirmed Coronavirus cases with over 35 deaths. As per official data of Health Ministry, 92 cases and 4 deaths have been reported in last 24 hours.
Maharashtra and Kerala are worst hit with more than 215 and 202 confirmed cases reported from the states respectively. Karnataka has reported 83 cases so far, followed by 72 in Uttar Pradesh, 70 in Telangana, and 69 in Gujarat.
The central government has strictly ordered all the state governments to harshly follow the lockdown. In addition, the government also asked the states to arrange food and shelter facilities to thousands of labors and wagers.Despite the rising number of confirmed cases, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that India is still in Stage II as there has been no evidence of community transmission so far.
The Supreme Court has asked the Centre to submit a status report by Tuesday regarding the measures taken in view of the large-scale migration of labourers amid the Coronavirus outbreak and the consequent lockdown across the nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ apologized for taking such a harsh step with immediate effect, but said it was for betterment of individuals and the country.
Meanwhile, the government on Monday also shut the rumors saying that there was no plan to extend the nationwide lock-down post April 14.
