PM tweets quitting social media; fans come up with ‘#NoModiNoTwitter’ trends
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is contemplating doing away with all his social media accounts. However, the PM did not give the reason behind his quitting the world of the internet, leaving his fans to wonder how he would keep them posted and stay connected with them. Within hours there were over 44,000 retweets and over 152,000 likes on the PM’s tweet.
On Monday, the PM tweeted his thoughts from his official twitter handle saying, “This Sunday, thinking of giving up my social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. I will keep you all posted.”
Within minutes the PM posted his thoughts on, his fans and followers including celebrities started urging him not to quit but rather take a break. The netizens set up ‘#NoSir’ urging him to ‘drop the idea and stay on’. Also, there were a lot of twitter users who said that if the PM left the platform, they would also follow suit and there started some other top trending hashtags like ‘#IWillAlsoLeaveTwitter’ and ‘#NoModiNoTwitter’.
A twitter user Virendra Sharma wrote, “The day @narendramodi will leave the SM platform, I would no longer be on the social media platforms.”
Actor Ranvir Shorey, replying to PM’s tweet wrote, “Twitter has that effect sometimes, Sir. The whataboutery here can be exhausting. Just take a break. It will pass.”
The Congress leader too had his piece of advice for the PM. He also tweeted in response to PM’s post, “Give up hatred, not social media accounts.”
PM Modi has over 53 million followers on Twitter and over 35 million and is among the list of 50 most-followed active world leaders on Facebook. Modi’s official page is liked by over 44 million people.
