Over 1k deaths in a week; Health Ministry quotes 2.87% as fatality rate

After recording a high score in fresh cases for over a week, India is seeing a rise in the number of fatalities as well. On Wednesday, 170 deaths were reported taking the total fatality count to 4,337. 
Statistics reveal that around 1,007 deaths have been reported in the country since May 21. About 150 fatalities occurred on May 21,142 were reported on May 22 and May 23 each and 156, 172, and 97 deaths were reported on in the following three days respectively.   

Despite these statistics, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that the fatality rate has been reduced from 3.3% to 2.87%.
The Director-General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Dr Balram Bhargava said, “In terms of fatality rate, we have surprisingly found a low fatality rate in India, which is very good. There are several hypotheses on this, but we can’t say anything clearly on any factor. Hope it continues.”
The ICMR has also said that the testings have gone up in the last few months, and 1.1 lakh samples are being tested every day.
So far, the country’s total count of Coronavirus cases has reached 1,51767 with another spike of over 6,000 fresh cases in the last 24 hours.
