Newly formed UTs, J&K and Ladakh get their first Lieutenants
Expenditure Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry, Girish Chandra Murmu will take over as the first Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, whereas former Defence Secretary Radha Krishna Mathur will be the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh when they formally assume the status of Union Territory (UT) on October 31.
All India services including Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) will report to the LGs in both the UTs. Also, the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir will be the common high court for both the UTs. Moreover, the incumbent governor of Jammu and Kashmir will serve as the Governor of Goa.
The 1985 batch IAS officer Murmu has worked as Principal Secretary for PM Narendra Modi during his tenure as CM, Gujarat. Murmu is said to be a close confidant of the PM and has held several key administrative positions in Gujarat.
Retired IAS officer Radha Krishna Mathur is from the 1977 batch of Tripura cadre. He retired from the post of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) in November 2018 and has served as Union Defence Secretary, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Secretary of India and the Chief Secretary of Tripura. He has also served as Development Commissioner in Ministry of Textiles, Chief Enforcement Officer in Ministry of Textiles in Central government, Chief Secretary of Tripura, Principal Secretary of Finance, and Principal Secretary of Agriculture and other key positions.
