Massive fire breaks out at a wedding in Delhi
A massive fire broke out at a wedding as two tents caught fire when guests lit fireworks under the shamiana at the entrance at Keshavpura DDA Park in Pitampura, Delhi.
About 500 guests were present at the occasion and escaped through the rear exit. The incident occurred at around 11 am. It took 45-minutes for seven fire tenders to douse the flames.
Chief fire officer, Atul Garg said that when the groom and his relatives arrived at the venue, someone lit a cracker under the shamiana to welcome them. The shamiana caught fire and most guests ran inside only to get trapped. The fire soon spread to the changing rooms erected close to the entrance and gold ornaments and other valuables were all gutted. The fire operators split into two groups and while one got busy dousing the fire, the other rescued the guests by cutting open the tent’s cloth walls. A police team also reached the spot within minutes.
The booking was made through DDA website. The park has two wedding tents next to each other. Several safety norms were ignored while erecting the semi-permanent structures. The walls were erected using thermocol and plastic material due to which the fire spread quickly. A case for causing damage due to fire has been registered.
