Ranu Mondal, who shot to fame singing Lata Mangeshkar songs, now has had a complete makeover and even has an offer to participate in a music reality show.
Mondal made a living by singing at West Bengal’s Ranaghat station and became an internet sensation with her video - in which she is singing Lata Mangeshkar’s soulful rendition ‘Ek pyaar ka nagma hai’ from the 1972 film Shor. The video was posted on a Facebook page ‘Barapeta Town The Place of Peace’ by Krishaan Das Zubu. The post fetched millions of likes, views, shares and comments.
The same social media page also shared photos of Mondal getting a makeover at a parlour ahead of her participation in a music reality show. Interestingly, Mondal has been getting offers to sing and perform at concerts in Mumbai, Kolkata and Kerala.
She said, “From my childhood days, I was fond of Mohammad Rafi and Mukeshji’s songs, but it was Lata Mangeshkar who inspired me most. She always touched my soul.”
Mondal was born in West Bengal’s Krishna Nagar and spent her childhood with her aunt in Ranaghat after her mother passed away at a very young age. After her marriage to Bablu Mondal she accompanied him to Mumbai in search of a living. A depressed Mondal returned to Ranaghat after her husband passed away and eked out a living by singing at the railway station.
