Indian Olympic Association to concentrate for 2026, 2032 Olympics post-pandemic, says President Batra
The Indian Olympic
Association has decided to work on the 2032 Olympic Games and other
international events once the Coronavirus pandemic is over. He has even predicted that India will get
over 10 medals in the next Games that are scheduled to be held in Birmingham,
England in 2022.
The Indian Olympic Association’s (IOA) Chief Narinder Batra said, “We are serious and definitely pitching for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games and the 2032 Olympics.”
Batra said that the IOA has already written to the International Olympic Committee about it. India faces tough competition from Thailand, Russia, and Colombia for the 2026 event, while Queensland in Australia, Shanghai are tough contenders for the 2032 Olympics.Referring to the Commonwealth Games that were hosted in New Delhi about a decade back, Batra said, “I can say the biggest takeaway was that India is capable of hosting all big-ticket events whether it is Olympics or any other Games.”
Batra, who is also the head of the International Hockey Federation, said that the documentation for the 2032 Olympics started but has come to a standstill due to the Covid-19.
He said, “Now there is a team that visits the various venues and you keep talking to them and then they submit a report. It is a continuous process which I believe will see no activity until December.”
He added that India had lessons to learn from the event, but the best part the event revealed is that India has a capacity to organise international sports events.
