India crosses 1L cases in a week; Manipur extends lockdown till July 15
The Coronavirus cases in India continue to soar with over one lakh positive cases being reported in just six days. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the national tally reached 5,48,318 cases on Monday with nearly 40,000 fresh cases being reported in last two days –Saturday (20,060) and Sunday (19,700).
Seeing the rising cases, Manipur has extended the lockdown till July 15, while Telangana government is considering shutting down Greater Hyderabad for another 15 days in an attempt to curb the spread. Similarly, Maharashtra is also considering extending the restrictions beyond June 30, said CM Uddhav Thackeray.On the other hand, Delhi (3306), Tamil Nadu (1443), Gujarat (391), Andhra Pradesh (428), and West Bengal (404) also reported high number of positive cases in last 24 hours.
Maharashtra’s total count has reached 1,64,626, and Manipur and Telangana have reported 1,185 and 14,419 cases respectively.
Likewise, Karnataka is also witnessing a surge in positive cases with 25% cases reported from Bengaluru alone. The city has recorded the doubling rate of 5 days as the cases soared from 1556 to 3419 within less than a week. The state so far has reported 13190 positive cases with 7507 recoveries.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has accepted that all mathematical models have so far failed to correctly predict the course of Coronavirus spread and hence, advised to focus on the epidemic prevention basics of testing, tracking and treatment.
