India beats SA in 3rd Test; gets firmer at World Test Championship with 240 points
It took India just 12 balls and 11-minutes to beat South Africa and complete the 3rd and final Test in Ranchi on Tuesday. The final over was played by debutant Shahbaz Nadeem who bundled the South Africans for 133 and handed India its 202-run win.
In the first Test innings as well, held in Visakhapatnam, the Proteas were all out for 162 while India scored 497 for 9 with a lead of 335 runs. In the second innings too played at Pune, the South Africans were sent to the pavilion after they slumped with 132 for all.
Indian team’s outstanding performance can be attributed to the pace attackers despite Jasprit Bumrah’s absence due to a stress fracture. While the decision to use Rohit Sharma as an opener proved to be a masterstroke, Mayank Agrawal firmed his position with a double century. Similarly, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin shared 28 wickets between them with 13 and 15 wickets respectively; Mohammed Shami took 13, Umesh Yadav took 11 and Ishant Sharma took 2 wickets.
Tuesday’s win was India’s sixth clean sweet on home ground and with it, which has helped further firm the country’s position at the top of the World Test Championship with 240 points.
