ICC postpones Women’s, U-19 Cricket World Cup qualifier due to Coronavirus pandemic

The International Cricket Council (ICC) postponed two qualifying events - the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier and the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Europe Division 2 - due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

While the Women’s World Cup qualifier was scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka between July 3 and July 19, the U19 Cricket World Cup was to begin in Denmark between July 24 and July 30 with the European Regional Qualifier.
The decision to postpone the events was taken after consulting the Members and relevant government and public health authorities.
The ICC Chief of Events Chris Tetley while giving out details about the decision said, “Our priority during this difficult period is to protect the well-being of players, coaches, officials, fans and the whole cricket community and we will take well-informed, responsible decisions in relation to both postponing events and resuming international cricket.”
Meanwhile, the ICC authorities are monitoring the remaining two ICC U19 Cricket WC Regional Qualifier Division 2 events. The two events include the Africa event, which is due to take place in Tanzania between August 7 and August 14 and the Asia event scheduled to be held between December 1 and December 9 in Thailand.
