Hungry snake eats half of its own body, video goes viral
A 1.28-minute creepy video surfaced from Pennsylvania showing a hungry kingsnake that had swallowed half of its body. The video was posted on the Facebook page Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary and a member of the team Jesse Rothacker posted the incident live. The video was shared on August 9.
In the video, Rothacker explains that often kingsnakes eat other snakes and even swallow themselves when very hungry. He said, “They will sometimes see their own tail, they’ll think it’s a snake, they’ll take a bite out of it and later realise they’ve bit themselves.”
In order to free the snake from its own mouth, Rothacker lightly taps the snake on its nose to make it uncomfortable so that it let goes its tail. In the background, Rothacker explains, “Usually if you make a snake nervous while it is eating, it will let go of whatever it is eating.” But instead of releasing, the kingsnake continues to swallow itself even further.
Rothacker then uses his thumbnail to help the snake loosen its grip on itself and successfully manages to do it.
