Home Ministry issues notice to Cong Prez over his British citizenship
The home ministry has issued a notice to Congress president Rahul Gandhi over his citizenship and asked him to explain his ‘factual position’ regarding it. This was after BJP MP Dr Subramanian Swamy filed a complaint stating Rahul Gandhi is a British citizen.
The ministry said that it has received a letter from Dr Subramanian Swamy in which he has written, “It has been brought that a company named Backops Limited was registered in the United Kingdom in the year 2003, with address 51 Southgate Street, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 9EH.”
The letter written by BC Joshi, director of citizenship, home ministry said, “ It has been brought out in the complaint that in the company’s annual returns filed on 10/102005 and 31/10/2006, your date of birth has been given as 19/06/1970 and that you have declared you nationality as British.”
The congress said that the notice was politically mooted by the BJP to divert the attention of the masses from key issues. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala replying in the same context said, “The entire world knows Rahul Gandhi is Indian citizen by birth. Modi ji has no answer for unemployment, he has no answer for agrarian distress and black money and that is why he is aiming at such things.”
However, the Congress, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has rubbished the allegations.
