Hizbul Commander Masood killed in encounter; J&K Police says area is ‘terrorist-free’
Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) Commander Masood was neutralised in a joint operation carried out by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army in Khulchohar area of Anantnag district on Monday. Two other terrorists of Pakistan based outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were also killed.
After the success of the operation, the Police said that the region is now ‘terrorist-free’.
The police said that Masood belonged to Doda district and before joining the outfit he was charged with raping a local woman. After the incident, he absconded and joined HM and shifted his area of operation to Kashmir.Meanwhile, on Sunday, the outfit also threatened to harm and abduct the families and relatives of J&K cops who recently arrested Naseema Bano, the mother of a slain terrorist Tauseef Ahmed. She was arrested on June 20 from South Kashmir’s Rampora Qaimoh area under the stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) over recruitment into Hizbul.
The police had recovered an AK 47 rifle, two pistols, and a large number of arms and ammunition from the spot.
Later Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said, “With today’s operation at Khulchohar area of Anantnag by Police along with Local RR unit in which 2 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists including one district commander and one HM commander Masood were neutralised, Doda district in Jammu Zone becomes totally militancy free once again.”
