Gujarati man ends life after losing Rs 78 lakh in online poker game

A 39-year-old man jumped into a well after losing Rs 78 lakh while playing an online poker game in Gujarat’s Mota Mava area, Rajkot district on late Wednesday night. The deceased Krunal Mehta’s body was found floating the next morning.
Mehta was employed with an Information Technology (IT) firm and would often borrow money to play poker in which he lost huge sums regularly. He had also shared his bank details on the mobile gaming app.
Investigating officer Vikram Vanzara said, “He took the extreme step as he lost Rs 78 lakh while playing a poker game on his mobile. We have recovered a suicide note from his home in which he has confessed to borrowed the sum of Rs 78 lakh from his friends and relatives to play ‘pokerbaazi’.
The officer also revealed that after Mehta’s death, his brother received an e-mail with bank transaction details giving a break-up of the money deducted after he lost several games.
The police cyber cell is investigating the case further.
