Ex-cricketer Azharuddin booked for duping travel agent for Rs 21 lakh
Former Indian captain and ex-Member of Parliament Mohammed Azharuddin have been booked for allegedly duping a travel agent to the tune of Rs 20.96 lakh in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The complainant Shahab Y Mohammad is the owner of Danish Tours and Travels agency and former executive of Jet Airways.
Shahab in his complaint said that he booked various international flight tickets worth Rs 20.96 lakh for three (including Azharuddin) in November last year on the request of former captain’s assistants, Sudesh Avikkal and Mujib Khan. The tickets were booked between November 9 and November 12, 2019, for various international destinations such as Dubai, Paris, Turin, Amsterdam, Munich, Copenhagen, Manchester, Zagreb, with top airlines.
Shahab said that though he was promised online payment several times, he never received any money. He alleged that he even sent Mohammed a copy of the cheque made in favour of Danish Tours & Travels on WhatsApp, but no payments were received.
Investigating officer PSI Amarnath D Nagre from City Chowk Police station in Aurangabad confirming the news said, “Former Indian cricketer Azharuddin and two others have been booked for cheating a travel agent. We are investigating the matter. If the payment is made in court, they will get immediate relief or else the trio will be arrested.”
However, through a 32-second video message posted on Twitter, Azharuddin has rubbished the claims and said that he is consulting his legal team to look after the matter.
