Defence Minister to perform ‘shastra pooja’ on Dusshera in France
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will perform ‘shastra pooja’ before the first Rafale fighter jet that he will be receiving at the French port city of Bordeaux on Dusshera October 8.
The ceremony to hand over the first Rafale jet will take place at a facility of Dassault Aviation, in Merignac of Bordeaux, which is at a distance of around 590 km from Paris. After the pooja, the Defence Minister will take a ride in the jet.
Reports said that before leaving for Bordeaux on Tuesday, Singh will meet the French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris and is likely to discuss about the defence and security ties between the two countries and later hold the annual defence dialogue with Parly during which both sides will explore ways to further deepen defence and security ties.
Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria earlier said that the first four of 36 Rafale jets will be delivered to India by May next year. The aircraft will be a significant addition to the Indian Armed Force and enhance the IAF’s combat prowess.
It may be recollected that India signed an inter-governmental agreement with France in September 2016 for the procurement of 36 Rafale fighter jets worth Rs 58,000 crore capable of carrying a range of potent weapons and missiles.
