CM Yogi Adityanath not to attend father’s funeral owing to lockdown
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s father, Anand Singh Bisht
(89), passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New
Delhi, on Monday at around 10.44 am. The announcement was made by State
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish K Awasthi.
Bisht
was admitted to the Gastroenterology
Department
on March 15 after his condition deteriorated due to liver and kidney infection.
He was also suffering from critically low blood pressure and, extreme
dehydration and severe infection. He was a resident of Panchur village,
Yamkeshwar area in Uttarakhand.
On receiving the news, CM Adityanath regretted not being able to meet his father in his last moments and said, "I am very saddened to hear the news of my father's death. My father has always taught me to be faithful, hardworking and selfless. I wanted to be with him in his final moments, but could not due to my responsibility to protect Uttar Pradesh's 23 crore people. I will not be able to attend the funeral tomorrow due to the lockdown to control the spread of coronavirus. I appeal to my mother and my relatives to follow the lockdown protocol while attending the funeral. I will visit after the lockdown ends.”
CM Yogi Adityanath received the news during a meeting on the
Covid-19 crisis.
