CM Chauhan expands cabinet amid Coronavirus lockdown

Nearly a month after taking over as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister for the fourth time, Shivraj Singh Chouhan expanded the state cabinet at Raj Bhawan in Bhopal on Tuesday. The oath was administered by Governor Lalji Tandon in a simple function while maintaining social distancing norms.

The allocation of portfolios is expected by today evening. Sources reveal that the inducted ministers will be allotted crucial portfolios like home and health while the remaining portfolios will stay with the CM till the time the entire cabinet can be sworn in after May 3.

Prominent and senior BJP leaders, six-time MLA from Datia Dr Narottam Mishra, five time MLA from Harda Assembly Kamal Patel, Meena Singh Gaj from Manpur in Umaria District and close aides of former Congressman Jyotiraditya Scindia - Tulsi Silawat and Govind Singh Rajput - took oath as ministers. Mishra and Silavat have served as Health Ministers in the then BJP and then Congress governments.

The cabinet formation has been delayed owing to Coronavirus lockdown and the opposition was being slammed for it.

Sources reveal that Chouhan had been in discussions with senior party leaders in Delhi about the size and allocation of portfolios in the cabinet. It is also believed that more loyalists of Jyotiraditya Scindia are likely to be a part of the cabinet after the lockdown is lifted.
