Centre holds emergency meet on locust; will issue advisory soon

The Centre on Saturday called an emergency meeting following the locust attack in Gurugram and Rewari districts. Currently, the swarms are lodged in Bhigarh Kheri, Rajendra Park, Surat Nagar, Laxman Vihar, and Daulatabad Flyover in Gurgaon.

The meet was chaired by the Environment Minister Gopal Rai in which he said that the Centre will issue an advisory to deal with the situation soon.

The residents of Gurugram were left shocked after the sky turned dark and the locusts invaded the posh residential societies. After this, they headed towards Delhi, but diverted their route from the border and headed towards Faridabad.

The District administration in all the adjoining districts of Delhi have been asked to be on high alert as the locust is likely to remain in the region for at least three days. The situation has worsened due to the strong winds that are blowing and further aiding the movement of the locusts.
