Building collapse in Ahmedabad; 1 killed, 4 rescued
At least 10 people are feared trapped after a government building collapsed in Ahmedabad’s Odhav area on Sunday evening. Two blocks of the four-storey building was already in a dilapidated condition.
Senior officers of Ahmedabad Fire & Emergency services rushed to the accident site and immediately launched relief and rescue operation. Concerning the severe condition, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani ordered Ahmedabad Collector to get a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for assistance in rescue operation.NDRF team and local fire brigade are still carrying out the rescue operation. "10 people are feared trapped. Two people have been rescued from under the debris. There were total 32 flats in the building, notice was given and it was vacated. It will later be ascertained how did they enter again today. Rescue operations underway," said Rajesh Bhatt, Additional Chief Fire Officer. Ahmedabad Collector Vikrant Pandey said, “Six persons have sustained serious injuries in the collapse and they have been shifted to hospital. We are still ascertaining if how many people could be trapped inside the debris. As a precaution, we have got surrounding apartments also evacuated.”
