BJP leader Sonali Phogat slaps Haryana government officer; cross-FIRs filed
Cross FIRs have been registered by Hisar Agricultural Produce Market Committee Secretary Sultan Singh and TikTok star-and-BJP leader Sonali Phogat after the leader thrashed Singh in full public view on Friday.
The episode has been captured in a 50-second video that has gone viral. In the clip, the leader can be seen beating the official and hurling abuses at him in full public view while the man continuously pleads.
Phogat has alleged that the Secretary used abusive and derogatory words for her when she was in the market to review things and discuss the problems of the farmers. She said that she beat him to teach him how important it is to respect women and she had no regrets about what happened. After the incident, Singh wrote an apology letter, but later backtracked saying that he was made to write the letter under pressure.
Congress Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala has asked Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to take action against Phogat. He tweeted, “Khattar government’s nauseating deeds! Adampur, Hisar’s BJP leader is beating market committee secretary like an animal. Is being a government worker a crime? Will Khattar sahab take action? Will media remain silent?”
Phogat has been booked under sections 147, 149, 332, 353, 186 and 506 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) while a case has been registered against Sultan Singh under sections 354 and 509 of IPC.
Phogat had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 state Assembly elections from BJP’s camp, but lost to former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal’s son Kuldeep Bishnoi from Adampur.
