Ajit Pawar resigns as Deputy CM; Fadnavis to hold Press Conference shortly
The midnight coup that brought Devendra Fadnavis back to power as Maharashtra Chief Minister on Saturday is once again on an unstable ground after Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar ditched him and resigned on Tuesday afternoon. Pawar’s resignation has come a day before they had to undergo a floor test on Wednesday.
The CM was confident of winning the floor test which was to be conducted through the open ballot and would be telecast live.
Pawar handed over his resignation to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and sent a copy of it to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari as well. He was also missing from the event organised to pay tribute to the 26/11 martyrs at the police memorial site in Marine Lines area of South Mumbai.
The event was attended by CM Fadnavis, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta, Director General of Police Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve, other senior police personnel and family members of the martyrs.
Sources close to Pawar revealed that he chose to take back his support due to continuous efforts by the NCP. Pawar along with 54 NCP leaders had pledged to support the BJP government.
Following a surprise resignation, CM Fadnavis is set to address the Press Conference at 3.30 pm today.
