3 militants killed in encounter with security forces in Kashmir’s Tral
Security forces in South Kashmir killed three militants in Tral village of Pulwama district in the wee hours of Wednesday. The operation was jointly carried out by Rashtriya rifles of Army Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Jammu and Kashmir Police, troops of 42 RR and 180 Battalion.
The three militants have been identified as Jehangir Rafiq Wani, Raja Umer Maqbool Bhat, and Uzair Ahmed Bhat. The militants were gunned down when the area was encircled by the military forces during a Cordon and Search Operations (CASO).
A senior-level officer while briefing about the operation said that the CASO was launched on Tuesday evening after receiving intelligence information about the presence of militants in Divar village. The area was cordoned and search operations began.
Soon an encounter broke out between the terrorists and the security officials in which the militants were killed. The security officials have recovered weapons and ammunition from the encounter site.
Wani was the second in command to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Hammad Khan in Tral. He had recently joined another militant outfit Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) after the death of Hammad in January 2020. The terrorist group has been actively involved in a series of terror acts like the killing of civilians and the arson of a truck in 2019.
