India’s Javelin-thrower Neeraj Chopra bagged another feather to his cap on Tuesday. He won Gold at the Sotteville Athletics Meet 2018 in France in Javelin by beating London Olympics gold-medallist Keshorn Walcott.
Chopra’s throw of 85.17m was enough to secure the top position on the stage by competing Andrian Mardare from Moldova on second position with 81.48m throw. Edis Matusevicius from Lithunaina secured third position with 79.31m javelin throw.
Adille Sumariwala, President of Athletics Federation of India (AFI) tweeted, “Well done Neeraj...keep going...Congratulations to Neeraj and coach Uwe Hohn (former World Record Holder in javelin throw). Thank you SAI and Govt of India for agreeing to send Neeraj to Finland along with coach for training on recommendation of Athletics Federation of India (AFI)”.
The winning distance of Chopra, however, less than his Javelin throw of 86.47 metre at Gold Coast Common Wealth Games (CGW) and become the first Indian to bag gold in CWG in javelin.
He then broke his own record at Doha Diamond League with a throw of 87.43 metres, but, unfortunately finished on fourth position.
