Mumbai airport system crashes, 50 flights get delay

Mumbai airport management system crashed on Tuesday due to which more than 50 flights were got delayed for about an hour. The system was an interface of software that carries out vital operations at the airport.

The crash caused flight display and check-in counter screens to go blank for over an hour, leaving the congested airport paralysed.

Reportedly, around 50 flights scheduled to depart from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm were delayed due to the cascading effect of system failure. Passengers at the airport complained of being stranded at the check-in counter. “Boarding passes are being issued manually, slowing down the process,” said a Delhi-bound passenger.

The spokesperson of the airport operator, Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL), said the system network encountered an issue at 4.45pm and resolved it by 5.50pm. Airlines, however, reported that the system was back to normal at 7pm.

Jet Airways informed the passengers about the delay via their twitter handle.

Later in the evening, MIAL released a statement saying they regretted the inconvenience caused to passengers and added extra manpower to look into essential operational measures and keep things running smoothly.
