A moderate earthquake hit Assam and its neighbouring states in the north-easy on Wednesday morning. The earthquake occurred at around 10:20 am at a depth of 13 km with its epicentre being in Kokrajhar district.
Tremors were also felt in parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Daga in Bhutan. The shocks were felt as far away as in Jharkhan's Kishanganj, Sahebganj and Hazaribagh districts.
An Assam State Disaster Management Authority official said there was no report of any major damage so far.
An official of the disaster management department in Srinagar said the epicentre of the quake was at a depth of 174 km at Latitude of 35.6 degree North and Longitude of 76.3 degree East, located 199 kms north of Kargil town in the frontier Ladakh region of the state.
