IPL 2018: Gayle ton brushes away SRH; KXIP up to third place

On Thursday at PCA stadium, Mohali, the first century for the IPL season 11 was slammed by Chris Gayle (38). He scored unbeaten 104 off 63 deliveries to set up Kings XI Punjab. This was the team’s third win of the season and later Chris Gayle was awarded the Man-of-the-Match. The player thanked his new franchise’s director of cricket Operations, former Indian cricket player, Virendra Sehwag for ‘saving the IPL’. “I think Virendra Sehwag saved the IPL by picking me” said Gayle with a big smile.

For the uninitiated, Gayle had been released by RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) scoring 3420 runs from 91 matches stands at second in their all-time-table. When the IPL auction began in January, he had gone unassigned on day one of the auction; on the second day KXIP (Kings XI Punjab) made a bid for Chris and got the record-setting Jamaican for his base price of Rs.2 crores. He got a chance to play in KXIP’s third match where he made an immediate mark with 63 runs on 33 balls.

Scoring his 21st century on Thursday in T20 cricket format, Gayle ensured that he will be playing all the remaining matches of Kings XI Punjab.
