Heavy rainfall in Mumbai, hundreds of flights delayed

At least 300 flights are reportedly delayed in Mumbai on Monday due to heavy rainfall. Continuous rainfall has brought the city to standstill.

Around 162 flights were delayed to take off, while 134 arrival flights were late and many were cancelled. Airline passengers travelling to and from Chennai, Ahmadabad, and Udaipur were most affected.

Jet Airways even announced a waiver on flight change and no-show penalty for its passengers commuting to and from Mumbai on Sunday.

Heavy rainfall in city resulted in water-logging in several areas and delay of several local trains. This is not the first time the city is facing such problems due to poor sewage and drainage system.

A huge crack has also appeared in the Kalyan-Thane bridge following heavy rainfall. Locals are facing heavy traffic along the route.

Weather forecasters have suggested heavy rainfall in next 24 to 48 hours in Mumbai.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra Assembly informed that 11 places in Mumbai were waterlogged and 150 additional pumps have been deployed to clear the water. He added that the state government will also consider extending date of admissions for various courses if the situation demands.
