Gang targeting PM rallies to big events, nabbed by Delhi Police

aslamA group of six men is nabbed by Delhi Police who have targeted every big event from PM Modi’s rallies, Puri rath yatra, to Justin Beiber’s concert in Mumbai. The gang had a dark motivation of taking advantage of the situations, stole wallets, smartphones, and valuables from the crowd.

The group members use to wear expensive clothes in style. They would fly to the destination event and book a first class travel ticket for the return journey to conveniently carry back the booty.

The gang was busted when cops nabbed the key players, mastermind Aslam Khan (38) and Mukesh Kumar (23) on Friday upon their return from the Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra.

According to DCP Atul Thakur, cops had received a tip-off about the gang coming to Maujpur in east Delhi to sell stolen phones. A trap was laid by the Police and the two nabbed. Cops recovered 46 high-end smartphones along with a pistol and cartridges from the men.

Aslam and gang have stolen around 5000 phones from such massive events, Police said. They would then use to sell the stolen mobile phones to people working in the mobile companies, who disassemble the devices and sell off the parts. This kept them out of Police’s radar for long.

Aslam told the cops that he got the idea of targeting big events while watching a concert on television, where a large crowd of young people were flashing high-end mobile phones.

Aslam had created a team of five notorious pickpockets for targeting events across the country for a sum of Rs 40,000 per month. Cops said the gang would keep themselves updated regarding upcoming events through newspapers and event listings on mobile applications.
