Farm and Construction equipment manufacturer Escorts Ltd. on Thursday launched driverless tractors after unveiling India's first compact electric tractor last year. Automated concept tractors are designed to provide advanced farming experience.
The driverless technology is aimed at providing precision-based farming that will save time and energy of the farmers along with maximising output. The prototype driverless tractors will be able to automate farming operations like ploughing and seeding.
Self-driving tractors are designed by Germany’s Porsche Design, a subsidiary of luxury carmaker Porsche AG.
Shenu Agarwal, Chief Executive of Escorts Agri Machinery, said that the advanced concept is able to automate up to 80% of the operations. “The tractor uses geo-fencing to map a crop field and via auto steering can drive in a straight line carrying out ploughing and seeding operations,” Agarwal said explaining the technology. Adding further, Agarwal said that the technology will boost crop productivity by 10-15%.
Escorts in-association with seven technology giants, Microsoft, Trimble, Reliance Jio, Samvardhana Motherson Group, WABCO, BOSCH, and AVL, for developing its innovative farming solutions.
The model is reportedly expected to be commercially launched in less than two years.
