Rajasthan BJP MLA Gyan Dev Ahuja on Monday said that cow slaughting is a bigger crime than terrorism as cows are treated as mothers in India. Representing Ramgarh in Alwar district, Ahuja claimed terrorists kill “two to five people”, but slaughtering cows hurts sentiments of thousands of people.

The BJP MLA’s statement comes on the backdrop of recent mob lynching incident in Rajasthan’s Alwar district where a Muslim Man named Rakbar Khan was beaten to death on the suspicion of cow smuggling. Ahuja also accused the local police for negligent in a recent mob lynching case where a young boy was killed in the name of cow protection in Lalawandi village of Alwar.

The comments from Ahuja follow arrest of three women in Alwar’s Govindgarh on Tuesday. They were suspected with nearly 40kg beef after claiming that a family belonging to minority community allegedly slaughtered a cow at their residence to sell the beef.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaking in Lok Sabha urged the state governments to take stringent moves to stop mob lynching cases and take against those involved in mob lynching cases and punish them to curb the menace prevailing in the country at the earliest.

According to the data released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, from the year 2014 to 3 March, 2018, 45 people were killed in 40 mob lynching cases across nine states. On July 17, the Supreme Court asked the Centre to pass a new legislation to deal with such incidents and take strict action on mob violence.
