Car crushed between two buses in northeast Delhi, 2 killed

A 78-year-old woman and a grandson were killed in a road accident after their car got crushed between a Delhi Transport Corporation bus and a cluster bus on Tuesday morning in Nand Nagri, north-east Delhi.

Police said that the green DTC bus in front was heading to Anand Vihar while the cluster bus was going towards Shahbad Dairy.

The accident took place around 11:30am on the Durgapuri-Tahirpur Road roundabout in northeast Delhi. It took half­ a ­dozen cops and locals over 30 minutes to take the two occupants out of the mangled car, Police said.

The victims were rushed to the nearby hospital, but, were already dead. The victims have been identified as Leelawati Garg and her grandson Amit Garg, who was on the steering at the time of accident. Amit is married to Monika and both have their two minor daughters. Amit sustained a serious head injury and died on the spot.

“I had never seen such a horrific scene in my life. The faces of the elderly woman and her grandson were crushed beyond identification. They were in the car’s front seats. Their bodies had also been sandwiched along with the car,” said an eyewitness.

“We have registered a case of rash and negligent driving causing deaths. Efforts are on to nab the absconding cluster bus driver,” said Atul Kumar Thakur, deputy commissioner of police (northeast).
