BSNL approaches district election officer against its defaulter Varun Gandhi
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) in Uttar Pradesh has written to Pilibhit District Election Officer seeking action against its defaulter, BJP’s lawmaker Varun Gandhi.
Varun Gandhi, who is also contesting the national election from Pilibhit, owes the state-owned telecom operator Rs 38,616 against his Pilibhit office telephone number during his previous term. The letter was written on March 30 by BSNL Pilibhit’s Accounts Officer in which he stated that the bill for the period 2009-2014 has not been paid ‘despite repeated reminders’. It also added, “The long chain of correspondences made with the Lok Sabha Secretariat, it has been intimated that the due amount might be pertaining to Broad Band services, which is required to be paid by the MP itself.”
Varun Gandhi has reportedly submitted his nomination for the ensuring Lok Sabha election 2019 from Pilibhit constituency without obtaining No Dues Certificate from BSNL, Pilibhit.
It may be noted that every contesting candidate is required to submit No Objection letters from government departments along with their nomination papers to the Election Commission. If the candidate does not comply with the rules, the Election Commission may cancel their nomination. Pilibhit goes to vote in the third phase of polling on April 23.
