BSF not first line of defence but first wall of defence: Rajnath Singh

NEW DELHI: While presenting the Police medals for Gallantry and Meritorious Services to the BSF personnel at an Investiture Ceremony on Tuesday, the Union Minister Rajnath Singh said “BSF not first line of defence but first wall of defence”. Out of the 14 Police Medals for Gallantry, four were awarded posthumously.

Speaking on the investiture ceremony, Rajnath Singh said that the country is proud of the sacrifices made by the Security Forces while defending the country. Appreciating the supreme sacrifice made by the BSF jawans in the line of duty, he said there is no sacrifice bigger than laying down one’s life for the nation. He said that unity, sovereignty and integrity of the nation is most important for us and there would be no compromise on it.

Further adding to his comment, Singh underlined the role of BSF in defending borders and said, “To defend our borders is our responsibility but responsibilities have no borders.”

The Union Minister said that the Government is presenting “Operational Casualty Certificates” to Paramilitary forces on the line of Battle Casualties in the Armed Forces which will entitle the families of CAPF jawans who sacrificed their lives for the sake of nation’s safety during the action against militants or terrorists. A web portal has also been launched to redress the grievances of the CAPF personnel.
