Asian Games 2018 updates: Swapna Barman, Arpinder Singh bags gold in athletics
India is being rich with medal tally of 54 at Asian Games 2018 till now with 11 gold, 20 silver, and 23 bronze medals. Despite severe jaw and gum pain, Swapna Barman clinched India’s first heptathlon gold in the Asian Games. She said that the gum infection, due to too many chocolates, made the task of 32 points seem really a mighty ordeal. But, she took on the pain and bagged another gold during the last three events of the heptathlon – long jump, javelin, and 800 m. While Arpinder Singh becomes the first Indian athlete to clinch gold in the men’s triple jump event as he returned with his best effort of 16.77 metres in the final. The medal came after 48 years, when Mohinder Singh Gill clinched the position with an effort of 16.11m. Arpinder battled against Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Kurbanov who took second position on the podium with personal best of 16.62m jump, while Chinese Cao Shuo with 16.56m jump bagged the bronze.
