India had best ever performance at the Asian Games 2018 bagging the best gold medal tally of 15 while registering the biggest haul in terms of its medal tally.
Overall haul of 69 medals turned out the highest ever surpassing the 65 medals India won in Guangzhou in 2010. The country clinched 24 silver medals, higher than at any other games tournaments, while their bronze tally of 30 medals was slightly behind the Games held in Incheon with 36 bronze medals and Guangzhou with 34 bronze medals.
India’s best performances at Asian Games events:
Neeraj Chopra (javelin), Manjit Singh (800m), Jinson Johnson (1500m), Tajinderpal Singh Toor (shot put), Arpinder Singh (triple jump, Swapna Barman (heptathlon) and the women’s 4x400m quartet of Hima Das, MR Povamma, Sarita Gayakwad and VK Vismaya won the top-place finishes.
Despite missing gold, their performances raised hopes for World Cup and Olympic tournaments.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar clinched gold in wrestling events.
India bagged a total of nine medals in shooting event including two gold by Saurabh Chaudhary and Rahi Sarnobat.
Pranab Bardhan and Shibnath Sarkar combined to bag 15th gold to India in Asiad 2018.
